7-Eleven Inc. promoted Doug Foster from vp of marketing to chief marketing officer. Foster is responsible for marketing, advertising, promotions and corporate communications for 7-Eleven stores in the U.S. and Canada.
As of June 1, Benchmark has joined Anthem Worldwide, a design agency with offices across the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Asia. Benchmark named Carole Winters research/communications coordinator and Bill Kapcar director, new business development.

Microsoft Corp. promoted Parisa Zander to group manager, worldwide visual merchandising, Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division. She previously worked as the group visual merchandising manager for both Xbox and PC games. Parisa was one of nine 2005 P-O-P Times People to Watch and recently joined the Institute's Executive Advisory Council.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently featured an interview with Jim Marstiller, president, The Solution Partnership. In the article, Marstiller discusses challenges facing American companies as they struggle to innovate in response to international competition. Marstiller was inducted into the P-O-P Hall of Fame in 2004.
GFX Dynamics won two out of six available awards at the Digital Retailing Expo Conference in Rosemont, IL. The company was awarded "Best In Class," creative content in a retail setting, for a display produced for fashion designer Lara Miller; and "Interactivity Innovation" for their SmartTable installation at Nygard International in Toronto.
The Love Box Co., a division of Pratt Industries, promoted Judi Befort to purchasing manager.
GMR Marketing named Tim Fess the director of business planning. Dave Bohnsack was named research director, and Jill Woller was hired as research manager.
PepsiCo hired Kathleen O'Brien as senior manager of channel strategy. She previously worked with Unilever for 7 years.
Saatchi & Saatchi X appointed Jeff Dufresne as its chief marketing offi cer. Dufresne brings more than 23 years of experience, including time as category general manager at Procter & Gamble and president of brand strategy at Brandstorm.
Joe Sbrocco recently retired as director of merchandising for GE Consumer & Industrial after 36 years in the business.
The 2006 Display of the Year winners in POPAI's Outstanding Merchandising Achievement awards were: Design Phase Inc.'s Xbox 360 Kiosk Program for Microsoft; Ellie Inc. and Frankel's "All Out Summer Spectacular" for the Coca-Cola Company; and Rand Display's SudaCare Shower Soothers Floorstand for Pfi zer Consumer Healthcare.

Coca-Cola has hired John Carroll as vice president of customer marketing.
New York University has developed a new course, "Retail Management," for the Stern School of Business. Marketing Professor Mickey Goodman is utilizing the Institute website as a source for research and intelligence.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has promoted Mark Tatum to senior vice president, marketing partnerships, and Emilio Collins to vice president, marketing partnerships.
Coors Brewing Co. has named Andrew Englund chief marketing officer of the Molson Coors Brewing unit. Previously he worked for Nabisco and was Hershey's vice president of international marketing.
The Carlson Group has hired Jon Nedland as director of business development.
Harvey & Daughters appointed Laura Holmes as strategic account planner. She will develop communication strategies and consumer data for clients such as Procter & Gamble Cosmetics.
May Advertising International won the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce's "Rising Star" Small Business of the Year Award in the 101-250 Employee Category. Judging was based on growth, performance, business and customer service strategies and practices, community involvement and employee relations.
Alliance, a division of Rock-Tenn Co., announced that it has made a financial investment in RFID service provider Goliath Solutions. The companies are collaborating to develop new display tracking technologies, says Alliance's Jim Einstein, executive vice president and general manager.

The Institute regrets to report that Fred "Randy" Randolph Curtis, 54, of Rogers, AR, passed away suddenly February 15. Curtis was a member of the Institute faculty and a very well-received keynote speaker at Institute events. He was born in 1951 in Dallas, and graduated from the University of Nebraska. A former vice president of creative and media for Wal-Mart, he owned and operated Curtis Relational Marketing in Rogers. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Curtis; three children; one brother; and his parents. Memorials can be sent to the National Psoriasis Foundation, 6600 S. Draft, Chicago, opened new offices in Bentonville, AR, and Los Angeles. It will use the former to help clients such as Procter & Gamble get closer to Wal-Mart, and the latter to service clients Kaiser Permanente and the Los Angeles Times.
American Licorice appointed Cherene Scherbinske as director of customer marketing. Recently, the marketing department relocated to Bend, OR.
Institute founding benefactor United Displaycraft promoted Rich Carrigan from coo to president. Sandy Carrigan will remain as ceo.
Global Marketing Group, TimBar Packaging & Display, and Design Display Group took home first, second and third place, respectively, in the People's Choice Display Showcase at TREX.
Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. appointed John Riconosciuto chief operating officer. He joined the company in 1986 and has been senior vice president and general manager, consumer packaging operations, since January 2004.
3M has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Mercury Online Solutions Inc., a provider of hardware and software technologies and network management services for digital signage and interactive kiosk networks. This acquisition accelerates 3M's entry into the rapidly growing digital signage network marketplace.

Jelly Belly Candy Company was profiled in the September Issue of P-O-P Times.A front-page article in the Sept. 21 Wall Street Journal focusing on the growth and sophistication of in-store marketing featured Procter & Gamble's Dina Howell, director of first moment of truth (FMOT), and Saatchi & Saatchi X ceo Andy Murray.
Anheuser-Busch has created two new multicultural marketing posts. Johnny Furr Jr. was named vp-sales development and community affairs for African-American marketing. Henry Dominguez was named vp-Hispanic marketing.
Sherwin-Williams won the "Best in Show" packaging award at the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) 2005 AmeriStar Awards. The winning Ready-to-Roll container is a paint package and roller pan in one.
McDonald's Corp. has named Mary Dillon its new global chief marketing officer. Formerly president of Quaker Foods, she succeeds Larry Light.
7-Eleven's Doug Foster was a keynote speaker at the In-Store Marketing Expo, held Sept. 14-15 in Chicago. His presentation is featured in the Lecture Hall of the Institute's website.
