P-O-P Times Renamed Shopper Marketing
The September 2008 issue of P-O-P Times magazine marks its 20th anniversary. In it, we'll look back on where the industry has been and where we expect it to go in the years ahead. It also will be the very last issue under the name P-O-P Times. Starting with the September issue, we're changing the magazine's name to Shopper Marketing.

We've been mulling this step for several years now, and it's not one we take lightly. That old name is exceptionally well-known, and it was a platform that helped launch the In-Store Marketing Institute, P-O-P Design, the P-O-P Hall of Fame, Women in P-O-P, the In-Store Marketing Expo, the Summit, the Executive Advisory Council, StratConn, and the Design of the Times Awards.
Our new name better reflects the composition of our CPG-company and retailer audience. That's because, across the board, brands are taking a more strategic, cross-functional approach to marketing in-store. They're breaking down the old "silos" that separated sales from marketing, merchandising from packaging, creative agencies from operations, research from purchasing -- and just about everybody in senior management. Our recipients are decision-makers and influencers at all levels of executive management.
We also think the name Shopper Marketing more properly reflects the industry's increasing complexity and sophistication. The term "P-O-P producer" no longer seems sufficient to describe companies that offer services ranging from store-based research and ad messaging expertise to logistical and post-program-measurement services. And, of course...
... displays and signage. As the video above demonstrates, our name change catches up to an editorial mission -- covering in-store marketing to shoppers -- that has been 20 years in the making.
